Wastewater aeration for the Dairy & Cheese industry

Dairy and cheese products aren’t made the same way as chairs, so why would your wastewater treatment be the same?

Too many wastewater treatment plants use one-size-fits-all aeration, as if the wastewater profile or the treatment needs are identical. To effectively treat the water that’s wasted in dairy and cheese production, trust the engineers at EDI, who have helped many dairy and cheese plants like yours with their wastewater aeration needs and have the tools and expertise to create a system that is low on costs, high on performance, tough enough to handle your wastewater needs for the long haul but easy on your operators.

Get your dissolved oxygen more efficiently, more serviceably, more durably.

If you’ve got an old existing aeration basin, let us help you make it work harder for you, rather than you working harder for it. How?

  • Our Matrix Plus membranes last longer, particularly in high-strength dairy and cheese wastewater, and help keep your system operating at its peak.
  • Our FlexAir® Pro diffusers optimize your air distribution to maximize your dissolved oxygen.
  • Our ModuleAir configurations offer access to your diffusers, even those at the bottom of a full basin.
  • Turn your existing activated sludge plant into a more efficient, reliable, and simpler system with BioPorts IFAS.

Not all aerated basins are created equal. Don’t replace your aeration without considering whether your system could work harder, more reliably, with less cost.

Look Inside

FlexAir® Pro aeration comes in many forms, including disc, tube, panel, or even Streamline which integrates the diffuser into your piping for ultimate efficiency.

Did you know?

Membranes come into direct contact with wastewater’s harshest contaminants, and choosing the right material can be the difference between a system that lasts a month or a decade.

More than a decade ago, Leprino Foods, globally one of the largest mozzarella makers, started taking EDI up on our Aeration for life™ promise.

F&A Dairy, founded in 1958, began manufacturing cheese at the Dresser, Wisconsin facility in 1974. Five years after the plant’s opening…

Let us handle your dirty work.

Even if you have full-time wastewater treatment staff, there are some jobs worth offloading. Maybe it’s the on-water work of inspecting and cleaning your aeration diffusers. Maybe it’s the big job of replacing outdated, inefficient membranes. Maybe it’s getting your brand new equipment installed by the manufacturer’s own wastewater treatment experts, not just any contractor between paving jobs, and having that single point of responsibility.

It’s worth hiring the right team to get the job done right, done faster, and with a warranty. That right team is SiteWorks, our elite onsite wastewater treatment squad and your wastewater operator’s new best friends. SiteWorks’ only goal is to ensure your plant is well installed, serviced, and (should the need arise) repaired, so you never have to worry about your wastewater treatment again.

SiteWorks installs, services, and repairs all makes and models of wastewater treatment plants.

Decide once…

…have it done right forever. Service contracts from SiteWorks ensure your treatment plant gets the attention it needs, when it needs it, without you lifting a finger.

Since 1994, Duckett Creek, MO’s 5 MGD plant has saved tens of thousands of dollars annually thanks to upgrades, services, and expansions performed by SiteWorks.

The right membrane for your aeration can make all the difference

The wrong fine-bubble aeration membrane will be eaten alive by the fats, oils and greases in the average dairy wastewater. The membrane is the mere millimetres-thick material on the outside of your aeration diffuser that makes the fine bubbles and prevents fouling. Choosing the right membrane could mean it lasts 30-50% longer, and maximizes your system’s efficiency over that time. So how do you know which is the right membrane?

The membrane experts in charge of EDI’s FlexAir® Pro fine-bubble aeration have tested it. We have helped many different dairy producers identify the right material for their aeration; we have even developed custom membranes for different industries, like our proprietary Matrix and Matrix Plus EPDM-embedded membranes. Having the right membrane keeps our customer’s wastewater treatment running, because we know dairy production doesn’t take a day off, so neither can our aeration.

Look Inside

It’s science: FlexAir® Pro’s 1-2mm diameter bubbles have a higher surface area-per-volume and rise more slowly than bigger bubbles. The resulting increase in dissolved oxygen makes your treatment plant work more efficiently.

Adding aeration to a pond not only improves performance, but might actually save you expensive desludging.

One of the largest municipal wastewater treatment facilities in Asia, Bai Long Gang in Shanghai treats an average of 2.8 million m3/day (740 MGD). What did FlexAir® Pro aeration save them by increasing efficiency just 10%?
